23 Ways in 23 Days to Land Media and Gigs
A daily action plan for building visibility: one concrete step a day to earn press coverage, podcast interviews, and paid speaking opportunities.
By Mark Albert and John Bates · August 10, 2026
Most people treat visibility as a campaign: a burst of activity, then nothing for six months. What works better is a short daily action, repeated. Below is a 23-day sequence — none of it takes more than half an hour a day, and by the end you will have a reporter list, a pitch, a speaking asset, and momentum.
Days 1-7: Get your foundation right
- Write the one sentence that says who you help and how. Say it out loud until it sounds like you.
- Update your LinkedIn headline and About section to match that sentence.
- Get one professional photo you actually like, and use it everywhere.
- Record a two-minute video of yourself explaining your core idea. Keep it; you'll need it.
- List the ten questions people in your field are arguing about right now.
- Pick the three of those you are genuinely qualified to answer.
- Write a 150-word bio and a 40-word bio, and store them in one place.
Days 8-14: Build the lists
- Find fifteen journalists who covered your topic in the last ninety days.
- Find ten podcasts your ideal clients actually listen to.
- Find ten conferences or association meetings in your field, with dates and organizers.
- Follow every name on those lists and read or listen to their work.
- Comment substantively on three of their posts or episodes — no pitching.
- Write down your best story: a moment, with a beginning, a turn, and a point.
- Collect your proof: numbers, results, case studies, prior coverage.
Days 15-23: Start asking
- Draft one 200-word pitch built around a real news peg.
- Send it to five reporters on your list.
- Draft a podcast pitch that proposes an episode, with three questions.
- Send it to five shows.
- Email two conference organizers with one session idea each.
- Publish one short piece of your own — a post or article — on your core topic.
- Offer a free talk to a local association or chamber to generate stage video.
- Follow up once, with new information, on everything you sent.
- Ask two clients or colleagues for an introduction to someone with an audience.
What to do on day 24
Start again. The list gets better, the pitches get faster, and the yeses compound. Visibility is a maintained asset, not a project with an end date.
